The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the western portion of Nepal on Wednesday, sending shockwaves into India.
According to ANI, six people were found dead in Nepal's Doti district after a house collapsed due to the earthquake.
The USGS recorded the earthquake's epicentre at a depth of 15 kilometres (9 miles), close to Dipayal in Nepal, which is located 340 kilometres (210 miles) west of Kathmandu. It struck about 2:00 a.m. (2030 GMT) and caused tremors throughout northern India.
Sher Bahadur Deuba, the prime minister of Nepal, sent his condolences and announced that plans had been made for the injured people's medical care.
Deuba tweeted, "Expressing my heartfelt condolences to families of those who died in the earthquake, which was centred in the Khaptad region of Far West. I’ve instructed relevant agencies to arrange immediate and proper treatment of the injured and victims in the affected areas."
After being shaken by the earthquake, numerous residents of New Delhi, the capital of India, recorded videos on social media showing swaying light fixtures and trembling fences.
The earthquake was measured at magnitude 6.3 by the Indian National Center for Seismology. There were no initial reports of major damage, and the USGS predicted an insignificant risk of fatalities.
Western Nepal had also been rattled by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake at a depth of ten kilometres hours earlier, around 9:00 p.m. (1530 GMT).
Another report from ANI stated that on Wednesday at around 6.27 a.m., a 4.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The National Center for Seismology estimates that the earthquake occurred 5 kilometres below the surface of the earth.
