Army officials have announced that going forward, the parade will alternately take place in various locations each year. The Prime Minister has hosted foreign dignitaries in a variety of cities over the last eight years, including Ahmedabad and Chennai. This action is being taken in order to develop closer ties with people all over the nation.

It is also important to note that the Indian Air Force (IAF) also shifted its yearly fly-past and parade from the Hindon Air Base near Delhi to Chandigarh in 2022.

The Indian Army was ruled by the British prior to India's independence in 1947, and General Cariappa's appointment as commander was the formal transfer of power.
